When a pet passes away at home, it is completely natural to feel confused and uncertain. Many people believe their first step should be contacting their vet or taking their pet to the veterinary practice.
However this is not the only option as your vet practice will have to store your pet until the crematorium collects from them which may be as little as once or twice a week. It might be in the evening, or at weekend and your vet practice is closed, you may not be able to move your pet or maybe you dont drive – there are many reasons why you dont have to do this.
For many families, having their pet gently collected from home can feel like a more peaceful and less distressing option during such an emotional time. While vets can offer support and guidance, they often work in partnership with larger, third-party cremation providers for aftercare, where multiple pets may be handled as part of a wider process and shipped to various parts of the country to central crematoriums.

If you feel able, you may wish to place your pet in their favourite blanket or bed. If this feels too difficult, please don’t worry, our team will take care of everything for you with love, compassion and respect. We recommend keeping your pet in a cool environment and avoiding warm areas wherever possible, Your pet may have a little accident after passing this is normal. It may offer some comfort to know that contrary to what you think your pet will not begin to decompose immediately. There is a natural process that occurs over time, and taking simple steps such as keeping them cool will help maintain their condition until arrangements can be made.

Why Choose Individual Pet Cremation rather than Cheaper Communal Cremation?
At Beloved Pets, we have made a clear and considered decision to only offer Individual Pet Cremation which means that we maintain the highest standard of care, transparency, and peace of mind for families during an incredibly difficult time. Every pet is unique and deeply loved, and we believe they deserve to be treated with absolute respect, love, care, and individuality on their final journey.
We do NOT offer Communal Cremation, Communal Cremation is where a large volume of all types of pets are cremated together at the same time. Quite often your pet will be stored in freezers and plastic bags and the ashes sent to landfill. If you see a price that is much cheaper make sure you ask the question is it Communal or Individual – You do not get ashes back from Communal Cremation.
